The island of Gran Canaria is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The centre of Las Palmas is approximately 25 km to the north of the airport and is easily accessible by using one of the car rental companies in the airport. In 2005 the airport dealt with over 9.8 million passengers and more than 110.000 flights.

It is the fifth busiest airport in Spain with the majority of tourist coming from Germany and the UK. The major tourist areas can be found in the south of the island and are easy to reach if you choose to take advantage of the car rental facilities.

Gran Canaria Airport has buses that take you to different destinations and there is also a taxi rank located in front of the airport. Unfortunately there is no train service on the island which makes it even more advisable to look for a good deal with one of the car rental agencies. To make sure your car is ready for you once you have arrived at the airport, you should think about reserving it in advance via telephone, fax or internet.
