Girona Airport
Getting To Girona AirportThe Spanish El Pais newspapers recently carried out a survey on which city had the best quality of life and Girona came top of the list. It is therefore well worth a visit and situated on the A7 motorway just 12 kilometres from the city centre and 110 kilometres from Barcelona. Its main function is serving resorts on the Costa Brava including Rosas, Estartit, Calella de Palafrugell, Palamos, Platja d'Aro, Tossa and Lloret (all of which are within a 50 kilometre radius). Car rental is the best option to get around this area and explore areas off the beaten track.
There is a special bus service outside the arrivals hall for Ryanair passengers which operates to many of the nearby resorts. You can also catch a bus to the centre of Barcelona, but this is a lengthy journey taking several hours.
Over 15 UK airports operate flights into Girona including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Cardiff, Doncaster, Nottingham, Manchester, Newcastle Blackpool, Liverpool, Glasgow and Teesside. Two new services have recently started from Dublin and Shannon Airports.
Unfortunately there no train links and the nearest station is in Girona. There are several reputable car rental companies based in the arrivals hall at the airport, who will be pleased to arrange transportation for your onward journey. Girona is an ideal area to organize car rental from the airport and drive to the Costa Brava with as it has a good traffic flow system and excellent signposting.
