Getting To Fuerteventura AirportThe airport at Fuerteventura is in El Matorral which is just five kilometres from the Island’s capital of Puerto del Rosario. It is a busy airport which handles mostly flights from the EU countries with Germany and UK representing 82% of their passenger traffic. They also handle domestic flights to Gran Canaria, Madrid-Barajas and Tenerife Norte.
Situated next to the sea and ten minutes from the popular resort of Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura Airport can be reached from the FV-1 highway, by taking a fork in the road which leads to a roundabout situated on the airport perimeter.
There is no train service operating from Fuerteventura, but there is a taxi rank outside the airport terminals and two buses: one leaves every 30 minutes and run between Puerto del Rosario, the airport and Caleta de Fuste. The cost is about €1.10. The second bus is less frequent and runs between Puerto del Rosario, the airport and Morro Jable at a cost of around €7.30.
By far the best way to explore the island is by organizing car rental as this will give you the freedom to get to all those places off the beaten track where the tourists tend not to go. There are several firms to choose from and you will find several international car rental companies on the ground floor in the main terminal.
