Exploring Logroño-Agoncillo AirportDating back to the 1920s when it was an air base, Logrono-Agoncillo has been home to an aviation club, reconnaissance group and site for aircraft repairs.
It opened its doors to civil air traffic, domestic and international tourism and a technical stop over point for commercial airlines in 1946. Activity was limited here until the 1980s when it was used for the Civil Guard and army helicopters. In 1994 its facilities were eventually transferred to the army in 1994 and the FAMET (army air forces) were established there.
Recognizing its growth potential being on a par with Leon and Burgos airports who were operating as flourishing concerns, in 1996 the Government of La Rioja started plans to convert Logrono-Agoncillo into the airport it is today.
