Exploring Leon Airport

During the Spanish Civil War the aerodrome at Leon was a Class A headquarters for a number of fighting units. An aviation school opened there in the 1940s and in 1964 it opened to commercial air traffic.

Because this is such an interesting area to visit, it is worth contacting one of the local rent a car companies to hire a vehicle to get around in.

It was not until 1990 that the Government decided to undertake a study on the aeronautical activity in the province which resulted in a civil airport with a runway, link road and aircraft parking area being opened in 1995. Phase two included a terminal and service building which were completed in 1999.

In 2003 a new building was erected for the Rescue and Firefighting Services and in October 2005 the airport was extended to its current state.

It is advisable to rent a car in this area so that you can fully explore Leon and northern Spain.
